A technology that can detect people’s emotions by the tone of their voice will be adopted by the Dubai government, as part of its efforts to boost consumer satisfaction under the national happiness program.
The so-called ‘Empath’ technology was developed by Japan’s Smartmedical Corp. It can identify emotions, regardless of language. Founder and CEO Nozomu Shibasaki said his company developed the technology after a major tsunami hit Japan in 2011. “We wanted to help victims’ families and rescue workers, decrease trauma and prevent possible negative mental consequences,” he said, while in the emirate to sign the agreement with Smart Dubai which oversees the initiative. “It found excellent reception among consumers because of its high quality and accuracy levels, as well as its user-friendliness.”
Aisha Butti Bin Bishr, Director General of the Smart Dubai Office, says the technology caters to the needs of residents and visitors alike. “That is why we use innovation and the best possible approaches to maintain the security and safety of every person who sets foot in Dubai,” she said. The government will work with the private sector to improve customer experience.
