Dubai-based real-estate developer, Meraas, announced today that the World’s tallest observation wheel “Ain Dubai” will be completed in time for Expo 2020 Dubai celebrations.
Standing at over 250 meters high, the structure will be more than 200% taller than the first-ever Ferris wheel. It is taller than the 135m London Eye, the 167m High Roller in Las Vegas and the 190m New York Wheel planned for Staten Island.
Ain Dubai will carry up to 1,400 passengers at a time in 48 double-glazed capsules.
In 2018, the company opened its latest island destination, which is home to Ain Dubai Bluewaters. Residences comprise 10 elegant mid-rise towers featuring 698 apartments, four penthouses and 17 townhouses, set over a podium that offers views of the sea or Ain Dubai. Bluewaters Residences began handing over its first completed units last February. Bluewaters is across from Jumeirah Beach Residences and is a 20-minute drive from City Walk.
Meanwhile, Meraas confirmed that the eighth and final 450-tonne temporary spoke has been successfully removed from the structure and the last of the permanent spoke cables has been installed, as progress on the project continues unabated.
The company revealed that over 5,000 tonnes of temporary steel spokes and rim braces held rim segments in place during construction. The cable wires responsible for holding the wheel rim in place have a cumulative length equal to the distance from Dubai to Cairo, which is 2,400 kilometers.
