According to a new YouGov poll,  22-year-old Malala Yousafzai is the youngest most admired person in the world. Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai’s placement increased by one to the seventh rank, keeping her title consistent as the youngest individual in the survey's findings.

The annual research evaluates which public figures are globally looked up to as role models. This year the study expanded to include the thoughts of people in a record-breaking 41 countries, with 42,000 individuals interviewed. “Thinking about the people alive in the world today, which [man or woman] do you most admire?”, was a preliminary question asked to participants in December last year. The respondents consisted of individuals from countries wherein the online population was lower than 60% of the total population, such as India, Pakistan, South Africa, Egypt, Indonesia and China.

The founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, holds his position as the world’s most admired man, having topped the list every time YouGov has conducted the survey. Following Gates are former American president Barack Obama and sequenced by Chinese figures; actor Jackie Chan, president Xi Jinping and Alibaba billionaire Jack Ma in fifth place.

In the women’s category, former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama climbed the ranks by one position while actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie dropped two places to become the third most admired person this year. Billionaire talk show host Oprah Winfrey moved up to the second position after Obama.

The world’s highest-paid entertainer, Taylor Swift, also dropped down yet still made the top 10. From Emma Watson to Ellen DeGeneres, entertainers dominated the women’s ranking, with 12 out of the top 20 known for their acting, singing or on-stage presence.
