Streaming giant Spotify released its official list of songs that were streamed the most, internationally and in the UAE, during the summer period. Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's second collaboration, "Senorita", was the most-listened-to song in both categories.
With over 565 million streams since its release in June, the hit track has simmered atop Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart for eight straight weeks, although it only reached #1 on the Billboard for the first time on Tuesday. In the emirates, the single performed similarly and dominated as the most listened-to song over summer, from June 1 to August 20, 2019. The song also nabbed the award at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) on Monday for the ‘Best Collaboration’. Mendes also made his onstage debut with Cabello the same night to perform the public favorite.
Ranking second was the country rap “Old Town Road” by breakout rapper-singer Montero Lamar Hill, better known as Lil Nas X. The 20-year-old went viral on video-sharing app TikTok in spring, only to be recognized by Billy Ray Cyrus for a remix feature. The remix version also made it to Barack and Michele Obama’s summer playlist at number 40. Proving that he’s no one-hit-wonder, Lil Nas X also had a smash hit with follow-up single “Panini,”, which also feature on the UAE's top summer songs list.
Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber’s “I Don’t Care” duet, was the third most-streamed song in the country and also the recipient of a VMA "Best Collaboration" nomination. “Bad guy” by Billie Eilish and “Ransom” by Lil Tecca followed suit at fourth and fifth place.
Iraqi singer, Aseel Hameem, reached 9th place with her track, Al Mafrood.
