Dubai-based mobile-native dry cleaning and laundry service, Washmen, has bagged $6.2 million in a Series-B round, bringing the total funding to over $7.8 million to date.
The latest round was led by Russia’s AddVenture as a returning investor, with participation from German consumer goods company Henkel, Lebanon’s Cedar Mundi Ventures and B&Y Venture Partners alongside the UAE’s Clara Ventures.
Washmen was founded in 2015 to connect logistics partners to existing laundromats. Today, the company fully owns the supply chain, launching its 30,000 sqft laundry and dry-cleaning facility in June 2019.
In August 2018, the company established a technology development team in Beirut, Lebanon, and expanded its team to 15 employees. The company will use the new investment to solidify operations in the UAE and expand its digital technology hub in Lebanon.
“We have traveled to 17 countries in search of what it takes to clean the items in your closet in the right way: from machines to processes and products. Our new facility, equipped with our proprietary tech, will allow us to clean up to 25,000 items a day when we are at peak utilization,” said co-founder and CEO Rami Shaar.
Washmen has partnered with Germany’s Miele to introduce commercial handwash programs. The startup has also started to hang-dry clothes, as opposed to using high-temperature driers.
Washmen was ranked 55th in Forbes Middle East’s list of “Top 100 Startups in The Middle East 2018.”
