At the Arabian Travel Market in April we spoke to Vipula Gunatilleka, CEO of Sri Lankan airlines, to discover how the national airline contributes to the economy, and why Sri Lanka should be on your bucketlist.
“Sri Lankan national airlines has been contributing to the national economy for around 40 years now, in terms of tourism or transporting passengers and cargo.
"We carry around six million passengers per annum. Our Middle Eastern market share is around 28% which means that a little less of a third of passengers are carried from the Middle East.
"When we prepared our business plan, we looked into tourism growth and growth in Asia Pacific, Sri Lanka is located in a unique spot close to Africa in terms of connecting points.
"We have so many beautiful attractions. Small islands, wildlife, diversity, whale watching, beautiful beaches and cultural heritage."
