Amazon Invests Over $22.5 Billion Into R&D In 2017
American technology companies have always pumped in extensive investments into research and development. Amazon, owned by billionaire Jeff Bezos, is the largest spender on R&D in the world, disbursing a whopping $22.5 billion for R&D.

The e-commerce giant was followed by Google’s parent firm Alphabet, chip maker Intel, software giant Microsoft and Apple. Spending on R&D amounted to $16.6 billion, $13.1 billion, $ 12.3 billion and $11.6 billion respectively.

Amazon is investing massively on Amazon Web Services- the company’s on demand cloud computing platform that is the market leader within this sector.

Apart from Amazon Web Services, they are also innovating within the smart devices space. Amazon’s virtual assistant Alexa is used in smart speakers Amazon Eco. Alexa is also able to control several smart devices using itself as a home automation system. Amazon Key Home Kit, which includes security camera and smart lock, allows users to manage and monitor their door from anywhere.

The Seattle-headquartered firm also introduced Amazon Go, a smart store where shoppers can just pick up their products and leave while the app will bill them directly on their accounts.
