These 43 Middle Eastern Companies Have Made It To Forbes’ Global 2000 List
Forbes has revealed its list of Global 2000: The World’s Largest Public Companies from 60 countries across the world and 43 companies from the Middle East have made the list this year.

The Global 2000 ranking is based on a composite score from equally-weighted measures of revenue, profits, assets and market value.

Last year 52 companies from the region made the list, including National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD), which merged in 2017 with First Gulf Bank (FGB) to become First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB)—the second largest bank in the Middle East after QNB.

The total revenues, profits, assets and market value of these 43 Middle Eastern companies are $220.9 billion, $48.4 billion, $2,320.5 billion and $636.9 billion respectively.

Saudi Arabia tops the list of companies from the Middle East with 15 companies, followed by 10 from the U.A.E., six from Qatar, four from Morocco, three from Kuwait, two from Lebanon and one each from Bahrain, Jordan and Oman.

Saudi Basic Industries (SABIC) is the highest ranked company from the Middle East with $41.9 billion sales, $5 billion profits, $90.5 net assets and $91.8 billion market value.

In order to compile the Global 2000 ranking, Forbes creates four separate lists of the 2000 biggest companies in each of the metrics: sales 2000, profits 2000, assets 2000, and market value 2000. Each of the 2000 lists has a minimum cutoff value in order for a company to qualify. For sales the cutoff is $4.47 billion, for profits its $333.3 million, for assets its $10.72 billion and for market value its $6.55 billion. In order for a company to be eligible for the final Global 2000 list, it has to qualify at least one of the lists.

Forbes Middle East’s list of the Top 100 Listed Companies in the Arab World 2018 will be revealed in the coming week. We rank the largest publicly listed companies in the Arab stock exchanges based on the four metrics, sales or revenues, profits, assets and market value.
