The anticipated El Niño climate phenomenon could inflict between $10 billion and $20 billion in economic losses on affected African countries, with the impact extending far beyond agriculture to threaten infrastructure, public finances, banking systems, and debt sustainability, according to the African Development Bank (AfDB).
