In April 2025, Qatar inaugurated the Ras Laffan and Mesaieed solar PV plants with a combined capacity of 875 megawatts, doubling solar energy output to 1,675 megawatts. The plants are expected to cut CO₂ emissions by 4.7 million tons annually and, along with QatarEnergy’s Al-Kharsaah plant, will meet 15% of peak power demand. Al-Kaabi joined QatarEnergy as a student in 1986 and was appointed as president and CEO in 2014. In 2018, he was also appointed Minister of State for Energy Affairs.
