Vodafone Egypt aims to be net-zero by 2035. In the 2024 financial year, its emissions dropped by 54% in scope 1 and 2, equivalent to charging over nine million smartphones. By March 2025, it was sourcing 100% of its on-grid electricity from renewable energy. The company has a long-term agreement with the New and Renewable Energy Authority to supply 78%, with the remaining 22% covered through renewable energy certificates. In March 2025, it launched its Solar Flower solution, generating 17.5 kWh of clean electricity per day from 12 solar panel structures. Essam has been with Vodafone since 2001 and assumed his current role in 2017.
