11. Kerolos Yousef
Age: 28
Occupation: PhD Candidate in Applied Physics at Harvard University
Nationality: Egyptian
Residence: U.S.
Category: Science & Technology
Yousef co-designed metasurfaces – ultrathin nanostructured materials that control light – to generate photon entanglement, enabling complex quantum operations on a single device instead of a bulky optical network. This approach can accelerate the development of photonic quantum computers, sensors, and networks, potentially enabling room-temperature quantum processors and portable lab-on-a-chip systems. His work has been published in Science Magazine and could transform precision sensing in medicine, and environmental monitoring. He has also authored seven journal papers, presented nine conference papers.
