Al-Meer assumed his current position in 2023. In May 2025, Qatar Airways signed a $96 billion agreement with Boeing and GE Aerospace to acquire up to 210 American-made Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 777X aircraft powered by GE Aerospace engines. For the 2024-2025 financial year, it recorded revenues of $23.5 billion and net profits of $2.2 billion. In September 2024, the Qatar Airways Group acquired 25% of South African airline Airlink for $41 million. In March 2025, it acquired a 25% minority stake in Virgin Australia for $514 million. Al-Meer also sits on the board of the International Air Transport Association.
