Qurban, a marine scientist, has led NCW in building scientific partnerships since 2019. NCW expanded endangered species recovery, extended protected areas toward the global 30x30 target, and earned recognition with Uruq Bani Ma’arid’s UNESCO Natural Heritage Site inscription in 2023 and IUCN Green List inclusion in 2025. In April 2025, NCW signed an MoU with the UK’s National Oceanography Centre to strengthen marine biodiversity projects, monitor endangered marine species, and apply advanced technologies in habitat protection. In July 2025, it signed an MoU with BirdLife International to enhance protection of migratory birds.
