Al-Kaabi was appointed as President and CEO of QatarEnergy in 2014. In 2018, he also became the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, a cabinet member of Qatar, and the Deputy Chairman of QatarEnergy. In 2025, QatarEnergy inaugurated the Ras Laffan and Mesaieed Solar Power Plants, doubling Qatar’s solar production to 1,675 megawatts as part of its Sustainability Strategy to exceed 4,000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2030. The company also awarded Samsung C&T the EPC contract for a major carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) project serving its LNG facilities in Ras Laffan Industrial City.
