Thabet assumed his current role in 2020. TAQA owns and manages assets in 25 countries across power & water generation, water treatment & reuse, transmission & distribution, and upstream and midstream oil and gas operations. In H1 2025, the group recorded $7.7 billion in revenues and its total assets amounted to $59.1 billion. In August 2025, TAQA agreed to acquire GS Inima, a water treatment and desalination company, for $1.2 billion, adding approximately 171 million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) of desalination capacity to TAQA’s 1,250 MIGD portfolio. Thabet is also deputy chairman at Masdar. He is also a board member of Etihad Aviation Group, and AD Ports Group.
