Ghazal is co-developing plasmonic titanium nitride–based membranes that harness solar energy to drive membrane distillation for domestic wastewater reuse. Titanium nitride particles absorb sunlight and convert it into heat at the membrane surface, increasing photothermal efficiency and removing over 99% of SDBS surfactants to produce irrigation-grade water. Her work offers a sustainable, energy-efficient alternative to conventional wastewater treatment. The research titled ‘Plasmonic Titanium Nitride–Containing Mixed Matrix Membranes and Related Membrane Distillation Methods’ is currently under U.S. patent application.
