Alhashmi co-developed a patent-pending, photoreactor technology that destroys PFAS at the molecular level. Unlike conventional treatments that only filter or trap PFAS, her system uses photochemistry to eliminate 99.8% of contaminants without producing secondary pollutants and can integrate into existing water treatment infrastructure. The technology, licensed by Coflux Purification, has entered commercial use. She has also led a project on electrochemical CO₂ reduction, converting captured CO₂ into fuels like formic acid. Alhashmi currently leads the Khalil Lab at NYU Abu Dhabi.
