Al Zarooni assumed his current role in 2021. DIEZ oversees three of Dubai’s free zones: Dubai Airport Freezone, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Dubai CommerCity. In 2025, DIEZ’s total trade reached approximately $133.7 billion, marking a 46% year-on-year increase. In 2026, DIEZ launched the District IO and Block 14 projects as part of the expansion of Dubai Silicon Oasis, with combined investments of $3.5 billion. Al Zarooni also serves on the boards of Dubai Aerospace Enterprise and RIT Dubai, and is the Secretary-General of the Dubai Free Zones Council.
