Founded in 1854, Telecom Egypt was the first telecom operator in Egypt, providing fixed and mobile voice and data services. In 2017, it rebranded its retail business to WE with the launch of mobile services. As of Q1 2025, it had 13.3 million fixed voice users, 10.4 million internet users, and 14.3 million mobile subscribers. In 2025, it signed a $296 million agreement with Orange Egypt to enhance digital infrastructure. In November 2024, it also partnered with Mobily to land the first Saudi subsea cable through the Red Sea, linking Saudi Arabia and Egypt. Telecom Egypt owned a 45% stake in Vodafone Egypt as of March 2025.
