In March 2025, Qatar Airways partnered with Virgin Australia and Renewable Developments Australia to establish a Charters Towers facility that will produce 96 million liters of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) annually from locally grown sugarcane, cutting lifecycle emissions by up to 70% by 2029. Through its new SAF program, Qatar Airways enabled Formula 1 to achieve a 19% emissions reduction in air freight operations in 2024, complementing its own purchases that reduced 19,000 tons of CO₂e that year.
