In January 2025, Etihad Rail introduced the region’s first CO₂ Emission Avoidance and Reduction Certificates, giving freight customers verified carbon savings data through EcoTransIT’s full lifecycle Well-to-Wheel assessment. In October 2024, Etihad Rail agreed to equip its Ghuweifat terminal with a 600-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system and a 2.56-megawatt-hour battery storage unit. The installation is expected to cover 85% of the terminal’s energy needs and cut emissions by more than 8,500 tons. Malak has been CEO since 2018.
