Mokhtar assumed his current position in 2022. In January 2026, the UAE became the first country within Viatris territories to commercialize a heart failure treatment. Viatris is also working towards improving mental healthcare and enhancing primary care models in collaboration with governments and advocacy groups within the broader Gulf and Middle East region. Mokhtar is a board member of AmCham Abu Dhabi, a founding member of the US-UAE Business Council, and a member of the US-Egypt Business Council.
