Xiao assumed his current position when G42 was founded in 2018. The group operates across cybersecurity, cloud computing, data centers, energy, geospatial intelligence and satellite communications, healthcare and life sciences, smart city and sustainability, sports, transportation and mobility and public services. In November 2025, G42 and Microsoft announced a 200-megawatt expansion of datacenter capacity expected by end-2026, as part of Microsoft’s $15.2 billion investment pledge in the U.A.E from 2023-2029. Xiao is also chairman of Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, a board of trustees member of the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence, and member of the U.A.E’s Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC).
