Afonso has been CEO of Arcera Life Sciences since its inception in 2023. Arcera was established by ADQ following the consolidation of its shareholdings in Acino International, Birgi Mefar Group, and Amoun Pharmaceutical Company. Its operating model spans 60 markets and has technical operations in eight countries. In 2025, it integrated five pharmaceutical businesses across EMEAT, Latin America, and Eurasia into Arcera. It also established multiple partnerships with international biotechnology companies, including the Emirates Drug Establishment, M42, and ISPOR UAE Chapter.
